We report a case with a pseudoaneurysm of the internal carotid artery after a penetrating trauma treated by carotid aneurysmectomy.
A 42 year-old female was admitted with a swelling on the right side of her neck. Duplex ultrasound showed a 2.58x3.3 cm pseudoaneurysm of the right internal carotid artery, located 3.5 cm distal to the bifurcation. The reason for the pseudoaneurysm formation was a penetrating injury of her neck one year ago. Surgery was performed uneventfully. In such cases, surgical excision of the aneurysm is necessary for optimal treatment of vascular injuries.Keywords: Carotid artery, internal; aneurysmTurkiye Klinikleri J Cardiovasc Sci 2007, 19:193-196
